Beating the Taper Crazies!

I mentioned in my recap of last weekend that on Sunday I had a splitting headache that I just could not get to go away. The headache was still there on Monday as well as a slightly sore throat and a semi-stuffy nose. I tried to ignore it on Monday morning when I went for an easy 4ish mile run. My legs felt great but my head felt like it weighed 78 pounds.

I hit the hay early on Monday evening hoping that a good nights rest would make me feel like new. When I woke up on Tuesday morning I felt...off. I had just slept for 9 hours yet I was still so tired and I felt slightly light headed and dizzy. No good. When I asked my fellow bloggers via twitter what I should do, I got the following responses:

I left work at noon and headed home for a little nap. A little nap that wound up being almost 5 hours. I was totally passed out- I didn't hear the dog walker come in to walk Brizzy nor did I hear her leave, nor did I hear the loud hammering of the parking garage renovations just a few floors below. I was dead to the world.

I awoke feeling like a million bucks. I think sleep is exactly what my body needed. I also went and bought a neti pot to clear out my sinuses. Have you guys ever used one of those things? It is the weirdest feeling ever- you pour water up your nose and it drip out the other side. Like this:

but it works! My nose was not even the tiniest bit stuffy after. Take that taper crazies, you can't get me!

I plan to get lots of sleep and continue with the neti pot until my 70.3 this weekend. (eeep!)

  5. Glad your are feeling better. Perfect timing to get sick, right? What can ya do, right? Don't listen to your brain over the next three days. Its going to try its hardest to convince you that you have lost ALL of your fitness. You haven't. In fact you have gotten stronger by resting and tapering. You go this!

So to track you on Sunday, what is your last name, if you don't mind me asking. Unless do you know your bib # yet?

  6. Glad it worked. Honestly, I like never get sick anymore. I do it almost every day. It's gross, but less gross than a sinus infection.

  9. Aww, good for you for listening to your body and getting a lot of sleep. You DEFINITELY need to do that before your race and if you're feeling a little sick. I am glad you are feeling better after some sleep and netti potting. GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND, YOU ARE GOING TO ROCK IT!:)
